Ladies of Excellence

Ladies of Excellence

Every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month, girls in grades 9 through 12 are welcomed to a club where they can plan on what to do in the future. The club’s sponsor is Ms. Crowder and Ms. Riggs discusses and teaches the girls about college plans.   Ms. Riggs helps her students in the FLOW club by learning what to do in the real world once their school year is done. The last meeting happened on November 5th 2014, where the club discussed scholarships.   Mr. Mark Smith from the Forrest Tech Center explained many ways of earning a scholarship.

Opportunities for earning scholarships can be found by volunteering, having a good academic record, participating in many extracurricular activities, and demonstrating financial need. He commented “how incredibly fortunate to see Ms. Rigg’s class being mentored on future life skills.” While being in the club I was happy to ask one of the members what they think of the club. “FLOW mentoring has taught me skills to prepare me for my future.”  Lauren Santos, 10th grader at LHS, shared her opinion.

The club is still looking for more members. Those who are interested must go to room C23 after school from 2:55pm-4:30pm (Make sure to ask a parent for a ride back home). If you’re looking for tips or need help to plan what to do after graduating high school, then come over to FLOW Mentoring. Ms. Riggs has announced what will be coming next class. “Next FLOW mentoring, November 19 2014: Dress for Success. Learn tips on what you wear says everything about you.”
