Earth Day is a glorious day for everyone to come together to clean up, refresh, and generally appreciate the beautiful planet we live upon. Our very own school is doing it’s part by creating a recycling initiative.

What’s Earth Day?

According to the official Earth Day website ( https://www.earthday.org/history/ ) it’s origins date back to the very first major environmental movement in 1970. After the industrialization era began America and other parts of the world slowly became more polluted with the smoke and smog of the new fuels. Then Rachel Carson wrote her provocative and influential book Silent Spring.

The very first Earth Day actually began with a Wisconsin senator and a young public activist. Senator Nelson and Denis Hayes worked to create a large event in which people across the nation gathered to celebrate and be educated about their Earth.

Recycling

Some tips that you should take into account this Earth Day is the three R’s; REDUCE REUSE RECYCLE.

Our very own school has decided to work on that final R by encouraging us to recycle and get recycling bins in the classroom. Ms. Bridges headed this campaign and hopefully this Earth Day you’ll make sure to look around for a bin to utilize instead of just throwing everything in the trash. You may be thinking, what is recyclable? Well, quite a few things, the core items are plastic, cardboard, paper, and aluminum.

Have a happy Earth Day!
