Welcome to Leonardtown High, Freshies

Welcome to Leonardtown High, Freshies

Most students can all remember the very first day of high school; brand new teachers, new students, new halls, new classes, it’s all a lot to take in! Remember all the rumors that people have told? Remember the reaction to spirit week here at Leonardtown High? Some of it came as a shock for most, but it was also exciting to experience all the new and interesting things here.

In fourth period lunch and asked two tables filled with freshmen. One table of girls named Kylie Egan, Mackenzie Parcell, Amber Mallory, Megan Conway, Erin Buster, Angel-Leigh Sewell and Bailee Wathen all agreed that high school was a lot better than middle school because they had more freedom and the teachers are a lot nicer. When asked what they thought of the upperclassmen, particularly the seniors, more than one responded by saying, “They’re weird.”

When asked about how their first day of high school was, almost all said that they got lost. It’s pretty common to experience the confusion with the upstairs and the downstairs since they look EXACTLY ALIKE. Don’t blame the freshmen for walking out of a classroom and trying to find the stairs to go upstairs when they’re already there.

Another table of boys named Alex Weston, Luke Tatman, Derek Taitano, and Mike Kaslik said that one of the rumors they heard about Leonardtown was about the pool on the roof. They even said that there was a ten dollar ticket that you had to get to swim in it. They also feared “freshman Friday” and come that day, nothing happened. The group of boys also enjoyed high school because of “Not having to line up” like in middle school. They are looking forward to sports and the football games and spirit week. They were also happy to find out that the work wasn’t as bad as their middle school teachers made it out to be and the teachers here are nice and easy-going.

The freshmen this year have a lot to look forward to here at Leonardtown High. Some days might be more difficult than others but the overall experience is one they’ll never forget. The seniors are more nostalgic than usual simply because they are realizing that the days here at this amazing school are coming to an end. So, some advice to the freshmen is to live each day here at Leonardtown as if it was your last, and ignore all the haters.
