Nothing’s better than the dog days of summer, when the sun shines bright, temperature is in the 90s and there’s not a care in the world, well at least for us highschool students. When people think about summer they think of beaches in Florida or in the Outer Banks or water parks at kings dominion and six flags but Southern Maryland has all of those fun activities.

The list of activities to do in Southern Maryland is endless for example Myrtle Point Beach, even though it’s not the biggest beach you can go out with your friends, play spikeball and tan. The water is accessible and refreshing especially after long hot days and there is always a crowd of people at Myrtle hanging out and having fun. If you’re an active type you should visit the Calvert Cliffs State Park which is a hiking trail system and beach which spans over 13 miles long. After the long walk you can enjoy the Beautiful cliffs and Beach which is very relaxing. Another cool spot to visit in southern Maryland would be Annmarie Gardens which is located in Solomons, the gardens showcase nature paths which are filled with artwork and paintings. Check out Annmarie Gardens’ schedule of events for a variety of popular annual festivals, family activities, and creative public programs. There’s also an Art Studio School where you can learn to make pottery and paintings on the premises. If you’re looking for a fun place to take you and the family head on down to the Chesapeake Beach water park. This water park showcases fun slides, long lazy rivers, and treacherous wave pools which will have you smiling the entire time. There are also events which they host at the Chesapeake Beach Water Park so if you go on the website you could find event dates and information there. Finally we have my personal favorite, the Patuxent River, since I live on the Patuxent River I’m a little biased but for families that have a boat or jet ski this River will keep you busy all summer long. For instance you can travel all the way down to Solomon’s Island and eat at all the wonderful restaurants such as the Lighthouse, the Pier and maybe even the Tiki Bar. You can also access Myrtle point Beach from the Patuxent River,  you can pull your boat or jet ski right up to the beach and relax. For people who like to get extreme you could also purchase wakeboards or tubes which is a very fun way to get hurt on the river.
