Upcoming Spring Sports

Hailey Springer, Junior Staff Writer

The harsh winter has finally come to an end, and now Leonardtown’s spring sports can finally start up. Tryouts for all spring sports were on March 1st, with a great turnout in each sport; unfortunately, that means that some cuts will have to be made. In all, it looks like this will be a good year for our spring sports teams.

Track and field had a great turnout this year, but due to the large numbers of folks trying out, there were a few cuts that had to be made for both girls and boys. The team has already gone in full throttle with the intense workouts to get the team ready for their first meet, lying only three weeks away.If the team is able to keep up that same vigor and energy through the season, odds are looking great for Leonardtown to take home the gold this year.

Girls Varsity Lacrosse has already had their first scrimmage to kick off their season. Although they lost this scrimmage, they are known to dominate on the field during their games. They are known to dominate the field during their games , but are also notorious for the great chemistry on the field, helping them to work well and pull off many a win This impressive teamwork and dedication is just a part of what makes these games some of the most exciting here to watch at Leonardtown. Although they haven’t had a game yet, their season is already looking bright; their first game will be here at Leonardtown on April 8th at 6 P.M., so be sure to come out and support the team!

Boys lacrosse team has been working very hard this season to get ready for their first game, both teams will take on Manchester Valley on March 22nd.  JV plays at 4:30 and Varsity plays at 6pm.  Make sure to come support your local lax bros.

The Leonardtown girls softball team has not yet been able to show off their skill in a game but the have some coming up pretty soon. The soonest game that is coming up for the varsity team is a neutral tournament game vs. Bishop McNamara on Saturday, March 26 at 1p. The JV team has also not been able to show off all of their hard work yet, but their first game is a neutral tournament game vs. Bishop McNamara on Saturday, March 26 at 1p.

The Leonardtown Varsity  baseball team has been working hard to get ready for their upcoming games. Although they have been putting in the work, the team lost Wednesday’s away playoff game against South River by a score of 7-6. Their next upcoming game is an away non-conference game at Stone on Monday, March 21 at 4:30p. The JV baseball team has not yet had a game but they have one coming up, it is a  neutral conference game vs. Patuxent on Friday, April 8 @ 4:30p. The future seems to be looking bright, good luck to our Leonardtown baseball team.

Although the spring sports season has just begun it appears that all of the teams are working hard to get ready for upcoming games/ meets. I can already tell that tell that this year’s spring sports are going to be doing very well and going very far. Good luck to all the teams on their soon to come events.
