Great Mills v. Leonardtown Football: Oh so close…

Annabelle Harvey, Junior Sports Writer

On Friday, October 14, Leonardtown took on Great Mills at Great Mills, for an age old county rivalry. The away bleachers were filled with Raider blue and white, cheering for what they hoped would be a win. Great Mills and Leonardtown have the same record, so going home with a win was a great possibility. The game started off with a Great Mills touchdown, but Raiders quickly came back with a touchdown by Cortez Bush. By the end of the first half the score was 20-14, Great Mills in the lead. During the second half, Great mills scored another touchdown, 28-14. Then, quarterback Zach Steifvater, caught the tip and ran 90 yards to a touchdown. This raised the score to 28-20, Great Mills still in the lead. Although the Raiders had many more good plays, the score remained at 28-20, leaving Raiders with a disappointing loss. Junior, Darin Winters says “we knew they were a decent team and we knew we had to come out and do our assignments and execute and for the most part we did. We had a few mistakes that hurt us.”
