Playoffs?! We’re Talking About Playoffs?!

The 2011 Major League Baseball playoffs are right around the corner, and I am here to give you the inside scoop on the MLB postseason. In the MLB every team is divided into 2 divisions. The divisions are the American League, and the National League. For each division there are 3 sections that are east central and west. The teams are divided into these groups by their location.

For the postseason, one team from each section goes on to play in the playoffs. But there is also the wildcard. There is one team from the National League, and one team from the American League that will get the wildcard spot. The wildcard is for the team with the next best record in the league, a total of 8 teams will play all together in the playoffs.

So far, the teams in the playoffs for the American League are the New York Yankees, the Detroit Tigers, and the Texas Rangers. The teams from the National League are the Philadelphia Phillies, the Milwaukee Brewers, and the Arizona Diamondbacks. As for the wildcards, both spots are still undetermined.

Personally, I believe that the Phillies are going to win the World Series. Their team this year is stacked on stacked on stacked. In my opinion the Diamondbacks also have a pretty good chance of winning, in my opinion. I decided to get a professional’s opinion on the matter, so I tweeted Derek Jeter asking him who he thought would win the World Series. Surprisingly, he didn’t respond, so I got the next best opinion, Mr. Adams our local Varsity Baseball coach and physical education teacher. When I asked him who he thought would win the playoffs he immediately responded with “Philly, because of their pitching.” So it seems pretty clear who is going to win it all.

The playoffs are right around the corner. They officially start on September 30th, so it will be interesting to see what happens, especially with the wildcard spots being so close. It will be an exciting finish this yea; I can’t wait to see what happens. So yes, we are in fact talking about the playoffs.
