Thank God it’s Almost Summertime

Jack Getty, Senior Staff Writer

With summer a mere 3 months away, most of us can’t wait for the carefree days without alarms and deadlines. For seniors this is the last summer of your childhood before you go out into the world and grow up. Some of you will get a job, some will go to college, others have decided to go into the military. Most of us have our plans for summer but here are some tips that will definitely make your summer great.

Hang out with friends. Whether it’s at the movies, sleepovers, or going on an adventure, the best experiences are had when you’re with your best friends. Over the summer it’s easy to fall into an endless cycle of going to sleep at 3 in the morning, waking up at 1, playing on your phone in your bed all day, rinsing and repeating. But it’s important to stay in contact with your friends, and change up your routine.

Get a job. I know what you’re thinking, trust me I thought the same thing, but getting a job is very important. You’re going to need a job when you’re older, and it’s helpful to get experience now. Having a job teaches you responsibility, commitment, and time management. Plus the money you earn is yours to spend on whatever you want. Go out with friends, save up for buying a car, save for college, or save for later. Having a job is also a sign of independence. You’re on your own to manage your money, and it’s up to you to be accountable and reliable. No more relying on your parents to ferry you around town and supply you with funds. Get a job now, and when you’re older the idea of being self-supporting won’t be as daunting.

Spend time with family. I know, sometimes they can be a pain, but having those relationships is essential in any healthy lifestyle. Family is one of the most important things in your life, even if you don’t want to admit it. So this summer make plans to spend time with family, even if it is just a simple phone call. It means a lot to your relatives that you took time out of your summer vacation to talk to them.

Summer is a time of relaxation and fun. Whether your idea of fun is staying inside and playing video games, or going to the beach with friends, summer is our time to slow down after school, and get ready for the next chapter of our lives. These tips will hopefully help you make the most of your summer vacation. Remember to stay safe this summer Raiders.
