Hey movie fans!

Do you like the Rocky movies? Well if you do, you’re going to love Real Steel. This robot boxing movie is better than it sounds. The film features the characters Charlie Kenton (Hugh Jackman) and his son Max (Dakota Goyo as they work their way to the top of robot boxing with Atom, their ‘small’ self-learning robot.
The movie starts off a bit slow, showing the audience that Charlie’s career has hit rock bottom. After a bull destroys his only robot, Charlie get summoned to court for the custody of his son. His ex-girlfriend died and now her sister wants custody of her nephew. Charlie is all for it, but the aunt’s husband isn’t, so he convinces Charlie to take the kid for the summer.
At first Charlie and Max don’t get along, but when they find Atom in a scrap yard, everything changes. With Max working on Atom’s hardware and Charlie training it to box; the ‘small’ robot becomes a force to be reckoned with. Making their way all the way up to the league of the best of the best, they finally find themselves up against the Champion bot, Zeus. Twice the size of Atom, it was like a robot version of David vs. Goliath.
When the movie finished, I interviewed Zack, an AMC theater employee, about the movie. But unlike myself, Zack didn’t like the movie. When asked his opinion of the movie, he told me that it was too emotional, had a bad script and the only things he enjoyed were the fight scenes and the special effects. He even went as far as calling it “A bad Rocky with robots.” Trying to get something positive from the interview, I asked him what his favorite part was. He told me it was the final fight scene against Zeus. And I’d have to agree with him there. To end the interview, I decided to ask him what he would have changed about the movie. Zack said he would have taken Max out of the whole movie. Confused, I said the kid was half the movie. He told me that was the point.
In the end, after seeing the movie for myself and interviewing Zack, I’d have to give Real Steel a ‘B’ in review. Until next time, movie fans, this is Jordan Dunn signing off. RAIDERS
