Christmas Tree Lighting in Leonardtown Square

Christmas+Tree+Lighting+in+Leonardtown+Square

It is that time of year again Leonardtown! The Annual Christmas on the Square/Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony took place on Black Friday, November 29th, 2013 from 5 to 9 PM. The tree was lit at 7:00 pm. Kids, teenagers, and adults of all ages went to this special holiday event after having a large Thanksgiving dinner and going on a Black Friday shopping spree.

The Christmas Tree Lightning included countless activities and fun events going on such as face painting, crafts, sleigh rides, hay rides, carriage rides, Christmas decorations, tons of food, and more.

The live entertainment included holiday music and stage performances by the Gracie’s Guys and Gals Dance Troupe, the Bella School of Music, the Leonardtown Baptist Church Choir, the Bootscooters, and Piney Point Elementary School. They put people into the holiday spirit while strolling around Leonardtown Square.

People stopped by at the Winegardner Auto Showroom Christmas Festival, which it was sponsored by the Leonardtown Volunteer Rescue Squad Auxiliary. They loved wreaths and decorated trees were on display all around the festival and kids of all ages had their grab bags and got their faces painted. Also, many people signed up for a chance to win a $500 worth of toys in a wagon.

A lot of people, especially the kids, saw and took pictures with Santa Claus in the square. He is one of the most exciting aspects of the special holiday event along with his famous reindeer, Rudolph.

I sat down with a few students and asked them about their experience at the Christmas on the Square/Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony.

“It was fun being with everybody during the merriest time of the year,” said freshman, Lexi Clem.

“I like the arts and crafts of the holiday event. My favorite part was face painting,” sophomore, Brittany Mitchel added.

I recommend people of all ages to go to Christmas on the Square/Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony next year, since this year was clearly a success. Spread the word to your classmates, friends, family members, siblings, and anyone else to go next year. It was a lot of fun, and yes, I did have fun at the event too. From the holiday music, to the food, to the rides, the fun never ends and this special event will be sure to put you into the holiday spirit.
